《50 Marathons 50 Days》简介:

The ultrarunning legend takes on the ultimate test of endurance: running 50 marathons in 50 days.

The ultrarunning legend takes on the ultimate test of endurance.

Men's Fitness magazine has hailed Dean Karnazes the fittest man on the planet. Time claimed that he is no mere mortal and Wired declared him the perfect human!

Now, Dean proves them right - again - by conquering what no man has undertaken before: 50 marathons in 50 days. That's 2092 kilometers. And five pairs of shoes, 18 pairs of socks, 1,374,721 heartbeats, and three lost toenails. In 50 Marathons 50 Days, Dean shares his secrets for super endurance. How to adapt quickly to extreme conditions, prevent muscle cramps and overheating, pace yourself when you hit the wall, recover after a gruelling race, and how to stay motivated - against all odds. There's also expert nutrition advice, and a 26-week beginner's marathon training plan. But the essence of this book goes well beyond the incredible story of those 50 races.

Above all, 50 Marathons 50 Days is a fascinating first-hand account of what it's like to push the limits of strength and motivation. It's an inspiring how-to book for anyone looking to go further than ever before towards their goals.

《50 Marathons 50 Days》读后感:

I have a friend who's just run the New York marathon.
I'm also very interested in endurance events - and what makes people want to push themselves to extreme limits.
So when I saw this book about a man in the United States who ran more than two thousand kilometres in 50 days I had to read it ..
50 Marathons, 50 Days - the Secrets to Super Endurance is a remarkable story.
Dean Karnazes has been described as the fittest man on the planet.
As well as being an internationally recognised endurance athlete, he also established his own foundation aimed at encouraging kids to be more active.
The whole 50 Marathons in 50 Days initiative was aimed at raising awareness and funds for this Foundation.
The idea was that Dean was to run a marathon in every state of the United States over the seven-week period - culminating in the New York event.
I was amazed at his story - and amazed that someone would actually want to undertake such a huge feat.
He went through 18 pairs of socks and 5 pairs of shoes - burning 160-thousand calories along the way.
Given all the travel involved - he averaged less than five hours sleep a night for the duration of the event.
At one point in the book .. Karnazes writes of running a marathon: "The marathoner asks more of himself than in reasonable.
"He commands his body and mind to do the unthinkable, to endure inconceivable hardship, all in the name of accomplishing something he deems worthwhile."
He tells of stories about people who ran a marathon with him throughout the fifty days - including one first-timer who actually crawled over the finish line in one state because he was too exhausted to run or walk.
The book also features some interesting tips and secrets on running and training for endurance events, how to stay motivated and some ideas on nutrition and recovery.
I think it's takes a very "special" person to want to run 50 marathons in 50 consecutive days.
I myself can't even imagine being fit enough to run one. I'm not sure I would ever see the value in running 50 - but each to their own.
The book's definitely worth a read if you enjoy fitness and running.
