    On the advice of his Marine recruiter, Dt. Tom began running daily to “get in shape” for boot camp. During the following 50+ years, he taught himself and others the physical and mental skills to simulate the talents of elite runners. For him, the old adage “There is no finish line” is most apropos. His first book, PROGRAMMED TO RUN, reflects his journey from novice runner to skilled marathoner, coach, scientist, field researcher, and writer up to age 60. During that time he ran 100+ marathons with a life time best of 2:48 in Boston. Since then he has become a skilled triathlete by improving his overall fitness, strength, and endurance. He completed his first Ironman at 68 and in his early 70s has twice qualified and competed in the Half Ironman World Championships. “Gotta run…bike…swim…ski…row…stand up paddle board…canoe…kayak… unicycle… strength train … etc.” is his mantra for youth and vitality.
