Especially useful for older runners, such as myself, who need help
keeping themselves uninjured. The heart monitor---used as it's meant to be---can really help with that!

I have used and followed the Coach Benson program of heart rate training on myself and to some degree with my son. I have found it to be effective for progressing my personal fitness beyond where I thought possible at this stage of the game. Unfortunately, I am a competitive person, and when my fitness level came up, I wanted to race. I got my 5k down to 19:06 in my mid 40s, but my achilles tendon couldn't take the stress of racing. I highly recommend this method to anyone who is serious about running, but doesn't use a coach.

The authors experiences offer a rather credible collection of truths on the subject of effort based training. The book helped me to learn lessons that had been obscured by myths and inaccurate opinions on the subject. I like his ordered approach and the phases of development required to become a good runner.
Have already recommended book to lots of friends and aspiring runners.
